Looming Vale refers to the island Heimaey, situated off the coast of Iceland. The title includes only part of the village’s identity. How silent this idyllic valley may appear to be, something is roaring beneath the surface of the earth. The village is located on top of two volcanoes. In 1973 one of the volcanoes erupted. The five thousand villagers fled, mainly in fishing boats.Only three and a half of them returned to rebuild their houses in the rough natural scenery. It is only a matter of time before the brutal power of the landscape wreaks havoc on the harmony of the archipelago. Meanwhile, life goes on in the shadow of a massive but silent threat.
